Man appears in court after bag ignites at MIA
MIAMI (AP):
Federal prosecutors are seeking detention until trial for a man arrested at Miami International Airport (MIA) after bullet primers ignited in his luggage.
Prosecutor Jacqueline Arango told a judge on Wednesday that 37-year-old Orville Andrew Braham is likely to flee before trial. A hearing on whether Braham gets bail is set for next Tuesday.
Braham, whose last known address was in Stoughton, is charged with illegally trans-porting ammunition. The Federal Bureau of Investigation says some 700 bullet primers and an ammunition reloader were hidden in checked suitcases aboard an American Airlines flight from Boston to Miami. Some ignited on Tuesday while the bags were being unloaded.
Braham was planning to travel to Jamaica. He told investigators he hid the items to keep them away from his children and forgot about them.
