Go beyond wishes to supercharge your career!
It's an enjoyable, time-honoured tradition around the world to give and receive New Year's wishes.
If you are really going to make more money you will have to improve your qualifications, sell more products, and take your career to the next level in 2011. But you'll have to move beyond wishing.
I realised this simple truth many years ago when my mentor said to me, 'If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.'
The proverbial light bulb suddenly clicked on in my head and has not gone off since.
Here's what he meant: If all we had to do was wish for the things we desired in life, everyone would be rich, have the perfect job and physique, and be living the life of their dreams.
In short, wishing accomplishes nothing worthwhile in the real world - its practical value is nil. Like cotton candy, wishes are rich in feel-good appeal, but lacking in substance.
Master key to productivity
So beyond merely wishing you a happy new year, I'll honour you with the gift of the master key for unlocking your awesome potential for greater productivity, effectiveness, and career achievements in 2011. Are you ready?
Here goes: Don't just wish for a successful year at work. Summon your willpower to work to make it so.
Replace 'I wish' with 'I will' and unleash the power of intention in your career and your life. Arouse your indomitable will - focus plus determination - and you'll obliterate every obstacle, setback and problem blocking the path to your career goals.
Here's why. To wish means having a longing for something. To will is to have the power to make conscious, deliberate choices or to control what one does; having a strong determination or purpose.
The difference between these two is huge.
Wishful thinkers depend upon chance to succeed. They would love the fruits of success but only if they don't have to pay the price of diligence, sacrifice and hard work. That's why many play the lottery. We wish them luck!
Winners will themselves to succeed.
They consciously commit to achieving specific goals and then discipline themselves to do whatever it takes to succeed. They take personal responsibility for winning rather than depending upon chance, luck or circumstances. They take control of how much money they make, spend and save, and their level of work performance. They never proffer blame or make excuses.
A strong will makes you unstoppable. With it, you enthusiastically send out other job applications even after 10 unsuccessful job interviews. It empowers you to go ahead and start your business or enrol in school despite fears and misgivings. It arouses within you the courage to confront your fears and move beyond your comfort zone.
Willpower and 'work-power' thrash wishing every time in the arena of career achievement. Where there's the will, you'll find the way to make this not just a happy year, but the most exceptional year of your career ever.
