Failed prime ministers

TREASURER OF the National Youth Parliamentary Watch Committee Jeffrey Brown has argued that heads of government who succeeded the late former prime ministers Michael Manley and Edward Seaga have done little to advance the cause of the country.

"It was their job to take us into a proper transformation, the proper networks in terms of technology and all that, but they have done nothing."

Brown said today's generation has to "fill the gap from where Michael and Seaga left it, to bring it to 2010, and we are not in power. When we get into power we have to fix what the current prime ministers should have done, plus what we have to do."

Brown is also of the view that the failure of good parenting has contributed to the country's crime problem.

Jovaughn Neil, president of the University of the West Indies Guild of Students, said the society needed to go through a process of resocialisation.

"We need to reinstate the value system, and in resocialising, I believe that focus on education is paramount. We are now fighting the fight that they (the generations before) should have fought long ago," he stressed.
