Government of Jamaica workers' pay delayed

The Ministry of Finance and the Public Service says government workers who experienced a delay in the payment of their monthly salaries yesterday will be paid today.

Senator Arthur Williams, state minister in the Ministry of Finance, told The Gleaner/ Power 106 News yesterday that most of the departments affected fall under the Office of the Prime Minister and included the Jamaica Fire Brigade and three parish councils.

Williams stressed that the delay resulted from late submissions from some departments and did not originate from the ministry's end as this month's payroll has been fully funded.

"Today is the changeover to the new central Treasury management system and, yes, there were a few glitches in that," he said. "There are some institutions which did not submit the information in time for them to get their pay today. That will be sorted out presently."
