'Collective spirit needed to promote Falmouth'

FALMOUTH, Trelawny:

THE TRELAWNY Parish Council must continue to be a proactive municipal body capable of enacting the necessary changes to ensure the continued development of the town of Falmouth and the parish, according to Jamaica Labour Party member of parliament (MP), Marisa Dalrymple-Philibert.

Speaking at an awards ceremony last Friday for officers and employees of the council, Dalrymple-Philibert urged councillors and other officers to develop a collective spirit in working together, to ensure that the people of Trelawny reap the success that Falmouth is poised to offer.

The South Trelawny MP said the parish is on the move, and any benefit that is associated with this movement should improve the standard of living for the people. She said the council has accomplished a lot in its bid to prepare the town of Falmouth for the cruise-ship industry.

"However, a lot more has to be done, and there has to be a partnership between the council and the people of the parish, for any development to be successful," said the MP, who is also the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives.

She praised the councillors for what she described as their excellent performances in their respective parish council divisions, measured by the fact that the Trelawny Parish Council was recently awarded the Ministry of Local Government award for outstanding commercial-service management, and the level of representation they have afforded the people.

Dalrymple-Philibert pledged to continue working with the councillors in their quest to develop the parish.

Some 40 employees, including the seven sitting councillors, were given awards for their contributions to the development of the parish. Commercial service manager, Errol Malcolm, received a special award on behalf of his department, for its outstanding work.
