POLICE COMMISSIONER Owen Ellington has issued a warning to the men and women under his command concerning their use of Facebook and other social networks.

"It has been observed in recent times that police personnel who have Facebook pages have been posting information revealing too many details about themselves and the Jamaica Constabulary Force," Ellington said in the Force Orders released yesterday.

"Such social sites must be immediately modified or closed ... to prevent embarrassment to individuals or (to) the force," added Ellington.

He told the cops that while there was no ban on the use of the social network sites, they should be used responsibly.

"Material posted on these social network sites can be extremely damaging to the image of the organisation and can cause sensitive information on force processes and members, especially those working in sensitive areas, to be unwittingly revealed to the public," warned Ellington.
