THE NATIONAL Road Operating and Constructing Company (NROCC) says it is close to finalising the deal for financing part of the Williamsfield leg of Highway 2000.

The Williamsfield leg will run from Sandy Bay, Clarendon, to Williamsfield, Manchester.

"We are now finalising the documentation with a number of multilaterals - the IDB (Inter-American Development Bank), the IFC (International Financing Corpora-tion) - to finance that expansion of the highway," said Ivan Anderson, managing director of NROCC.

He was speaking on Thursday at the monthly meeting of the St Catherine Parish Council.

The segment is expected to be completed in 19 months.

During this phase, a number of changes will be made to the highway and its existing operations, in particular at Vineyards where this section will undergo an expansion.

Anderson pointed out that the discussion with residents who had expressed concerns about inaccessibility to the highway from the Bushy Park interchange had been concluded.

"So we have done some plans which allow motorists to get off the highway just through an exit just past Vineyards and re-enter just east of Vineyards."
