THE POLICEMEN accused of gang-raping an exotic dancer on Wednesday night have been taken into custody and were being questioned up to press time.

Karl Angell, director of communications for the Jamaica Constabulary Force, confirmed to The Gleaner last night that the lawmen were in police custody and investigations were continuing into the matter.

The police launched an investigation after it was alleged that five officers sexually assaulted an exotic dancer at a nightclub in Spanish Town, St Catherine, on the night of Wednesday, February 16.

Reports are that the five policemen from the St Catherine North Division were conducting a raid at the nightclub just after midnight.

It is reported that some of the officers stayed inside to search patrons, while five others reportedly took the dancer to the rear of the building where they allegedly took turns raping her.

The victim said they held a gun to her head during the act.

"I was so shocked that I could not scream," she said crying.

The officers were taken off front-line duty following the allegations.
