No quick fix for St Mary road
MARLBOROUGH, St Mary:
WHEN MELISSA 'Arlene' Gocan told The Gleaner about poor road conditions in her community of Marlborough, she complained that politicians had for years been promising that the roads would be fixed, but it "nah fix" she lamented.
The Marlborough resident had no way of knowing just how prophetic her words about the road "nah fix" (not going to be fixed) would prove to be. When The Gleaner checked with Dr Morais Guy, member of parliament for Central St Mary, he confirmed that repairs to the affected area would be long in coming and would, of necessity, need to be long term to be effective.
The damaged area of the Marlborough main road, he said, is the responsibility of the St Mary Parish Council, and following representation by councillor Paul Fyffe, he was advised that they would have to await the next financial year before any attempt could be made to address it under the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme.
