Audit play areas - Clarke

OUTGOING CHILDREN'S Advocate, Mary Clarke, has renewed calls for an audit of all play areas and community parks for children.

Responding to the incident on Thursday at Sts Peter and Paul Preparatory School in St Andrew, Clarke pointed out that the Office of the Children's Advocate had called for this audit from last year.

She expressed regret that a nine-year-old died after being hit by a goalpost and noted that it was the second of its kind since the start of the year.

"This incident is another wake-up call for institutions providing services for children to ensure that their facilities and infrastructure can guarantee the safety of the children they serve and uphold their right to protection," Clarke said.
