THE JAMAICAN Bar Association has issued a reminder to the police that they cannot legally barge into the offices of lawyers and seize documents or other records.
Responding to reports that a group of cops visited the offices of the solicitor general on Thursday in an attempt to seize computers, the Bar Association said while it accepts the explanation of the Police High Command that this was a mistake, it remained concerned.
"We wish to remind the police, attorneys, and the public alike of the strict laws in relation to the confidentiality of material held by lawyers on behalf of clients, and that this can only be breached with the consent of the client, a court-ordered search warrant, or other court order," the Bar Association said.
