Help! My 8-y-o has cancer
Q. I am concerned about my eight-year-old daughter and how she is coping with her cancer diagnosis. The doctors are very helpful but I cannot find a psychologist with specialist skills to help us. Can you recommend someone?
A. I am not aware of a psycho-logist in Jamaica who specialises in counselling children diagnosed with cancer. I am hoping a psychologist with these special skills will email me so I can send you the contact information. In the meanwhile, a child psychologist will be able to help you. Let me know where you are and I will guide you to a psychologist.
Daddy's home
Q. My children - 10 and 12 - are excited about plans we made six months ago to visit relatives abroad, but their dad has not been well, recently. He says I should still go and take the children, but I am afraid he will get worse if I do. What do I do?
AHave a family meeting and share basic information regarding why dad will not be able to travel. If you decide to go, keep in touch via telephone and/or Skype while you are there so dad will be a "part" of the experience.
