MAY PEN, Clarendon:

GLEANER EDITOR-IN-CHIEF Garfield Grandison has challenged policymakers to turn the spotlight on rural communities to promote economic growth and job creation.

"When we talk development and economic growth and job creation, we have got to know that the attention we give to rural parishes is very important. You can't have real growth - economic growth and job creation - if you ignore what is taking place in the countryside," he told business and civic leaders in Clarendon on Thursday.

Grandison, who was launching The Gleaner's Rural Xpress project, noted that "people are doing amazing things to change their communities, and we want to share these with readers right across Jamaica and internationally through our website".
