THE SIGH of relief could be heard from a distance as students exited the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) centres after completing the final papers on day two of the examination.

Months of vigorous tutoring and constant focus on textbooks resulted in restricted play time for hundreds of children preparing to sit the exams. Now that the GSAT is behind them, the students can resume their regular recreational activities.

When The Gleaner visited the Jessie Ripoll Primary School in Kingston, the exam was in session, but a number of parents had converged on the school grounds counting down the minutes for their children to step out of the examination rooms.

Most parents said they were nervous, but feeling a sense of relief.

Lanita Latibeaudiere said, however, she would not be at ease until the exam results are published.

"I am happy the hard work is over, but I won't feel good until I hear my son's results, but for now, I will just relax and wait," she explained.
