Michael Bernard awarded the 'Manager of the Year'

FORMER MANAGING director of Carreras Limited, Michael Bernard, is the Jamaica Institute of Management (JIM)/Gleaner 2010 Manager of the Year.

The announcement was made during a special ceremony at King's House on Thursday in which Governor General Sir Patrick Allen was installed as a fellow and the new president of JIM.

Bernard was one of four persons nominated for the award. The others were Ryland Campbell, chairman of the Capital and Credit Financial Group; Ernest Grant, general manager of Rainforest Seafood Limited; and Warren McDonald, regional managing director of Berger Caribbean Limited.

The former Carreras managing director said the award was "tremendous" acknowledgement of the work he and the team at Carreras had done over the years.

Sir Allen, speaking after his instalment, said he anticipated that JIM would become proactive in civic affairs and offer ideas and comments on matters of national interest.

Chairman of the Gleaner Company Oliver Clarke was among three others who were also installed as new fellows of JIM. Manpower & Maintenance Services' chief executive officer, Audrey Hinchcliffe, who was the 2009 Manager of the Year, and Professor Gossett Oliver were the others.
