Online shopping firm MailPac Services has opened outlets at five new locations, bringing the company's total to eight, with plans to add four more by the end of May in a nationwide expansion drive.

The company would not be drawn on its capital expenditure for the expansion.

However, general manager Mark Gonzales said that online shopping has grown significantly over the last year, opening up opportunities for the company to further expand the business.

"The reality is that the Internet is now the most affordable way to source items," said Gonzales.

He said that in addition to the significant savings it offers, the Internet is the source of the largest selection of inventory in the world.

"Therefore, we are committed to sharing this amazing resource of online shopping with every single Jamaican, no matter where they reside."

Khary Robinson, managing partner of Norbrook Capital Management, the parent company for MailPac, said the online shopping market in Jamaica has grown by approximately 65 per cent during the past 12 months.

The new locations of the MailPac shops are New Kingston, Eastwood Park Road, and University of Technology in Kingston; Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland; and Port-more, St Catherine.

These locations will serve as drop-off and pick-up points for individuals looking to send or receive packages.

"The offering is directly in line with our goal of becoming Jamaica's first 'one-stop-shop' logistics provider," said Gonzales.

While Gonzales declined to give turnover data, he said "approximately seven out of every 10 online purchases brought to Jamaica are entrusted to MailPac".
