The Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE) will introduce a new index that incorporates the junior market and main market ordinary stocks, starting April 1.

The JSE Combined Index will provide a snapshot of the performance of "both markets at a glance without having to scan different reports to get an appreciation of what is happening in both markets," said the JSE on Monday.

The Junior Index tracks eight stocks valued at J$8.2 billion, while the Market Index incorporates 40 ordinary stocks valued at more than J$571 billion .

The JSE currently monitors trading and reports on market performance via five indices - main market, junior market, select, All Jamaica composite and the cross list. It also compiles a bond index of select regional debt instruments.

JSE General Manager Marlene Street Forrest said the new combined index will "provide a daily indicator of total market capital and its movement."
