SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:

ONE HUNDRED and twenty-five persons who are in need of wheelchairs will be receiving the well-needed device through the kind donation of a Rotary Club in the United States of America.

"It is a great feeling to find this type of benevolence from these volunteer groups. It means a number of persons will be able to move. The ministry is very proud," principal financial manager in the Ministry of Health, Michael Maragh, said on Friday during the handover ceremony, held at St Monica's Home in Spanish Town.

The project is a collaborative effort between the Arkansas-based Rotary Club and Jamaica Wheelchair Project - a Jamaica Rotary project, and The American Wheelchair Mission.

Mary Chambers smiled as she sat in one of the wheelchairs. She was one of eight residents of the St Monica Home and the Spanish Town Infirmary who received wheelchairs.

Residents were assessed by Dr St Clair Clarke of Spanish Town Hospital.
