WITH A drastic increase in the demand for pharmaceuticals and medical supplies in public-health facilities since the implementation of the no-user-fee policy, the Government is stepping up its efforts to effectively meet the increased demand for health care.
The administration has responded to the demands from all the health regions across the island by allocating more money to purchase supplies for fiscal year 2011-2012.
The South East Regional Health Authority has been given more than $1.4 billion, up from $980 million. At the same time, the North East Regional Health Authority has seen an increase to $418 million, up from $300 million last year. The Western Regional Health Authority received $795 million, up from the $500 million spent last year. For the Southern Regional Health Authority, $740 million has been earmarked, an increase over the $456 million set aside last year.
