This vet has the 'pits'
The Pitbull ... big head, big mouth, huge teeth, robust body, penetrating eyes! Your first instinct? Fear and trembling!
I own three pitbulls plus a Rottweiler, and I have never been more impressed with a dog's intelligence as I have been with that of the Pitbull.
Jamaicans may be wary of pitbulls, because these dogs have earned a bad reputation of violence and aggression and the stories are endless: 'Pitbull mauls child', 'Pitbull attacks owner', etc. But what really happened? Of course, I am not condoning the attack on humans by any dog, but I believe it is unfair for us to sensationalise pitbulls without the facts.
Pitbulls are loyal, trustworthy and protective. They have the remarkable ability to quickly assess a situation, determine if there is a threat and act on their master's command or even on their own initiative. Pitbulls are not for everyone! Therefore, consider the following questions:
1) Why do I need this dog?
2) What is this dog originally bred for?
3) Who will interact with this dog? Children, other dogs?
4) Is my home secure?
5) Will I have time to spend with the dog?
6) Does the dog need training?
Build a relationship/connect with your dog. A pitbull's instincts and physical capabilities are different than other dogs. Know what you want in a dog and choose the right one for your unique situation and purpose.
