Security guard shot dead in botched robbery

Police sources have theorised that the botched robbery on-board a passenger bus along Spanish Town Road in Kingston yesterday that left a security guard dead and one of his colleagues critically wounded was the work of loosely organised thugs from nearby communities.
The names of the security guards have not yet been released, but they are believed to be employees of Hawkeye Security Limited.
An eyewitness told The Gleaner that the security guards were shot after they attempted to foil a robbery on-board a Coaster bus that had stopped in the vicinity of Riverton City to allow a passenger to get off.
A police source says there have been numerous robberies in this area, but the police have had little success in catching the perpetrators.
"They take the buses from Old Harbour and other areas and ask for a stop in the Riverton City area where they are joined by their friends in carrying out these robberies," the police investigator said.
