Hutton's warned!
THE MINISTRY of Education has given Hutton's Education Unit six months to clear up what it says are irregularities or face the prospect of being deregistered.
In a release yesterday, the ministry said it had served a 'notice of complaint' against the institution outlining the irregularities.
The ministry said Hutton's had not exercised proper fiduciary management, failing to pay over Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) fees collected from students in a timely manner.
According to the ministry, this failure on the part of Hutton's had jeopardised the students' chances of sitting the examinations.
"The institution has failed to acquire a Taxpayer Registration Number, hence, school fees are paid directly to Mr Hutton's personal account," the ministry stated.
no exam arrangements
According to the ministry, the CXC has taken the decision not to make any allowances for Hutton's Education Unit at this time, as the students are not registered and, therefore, no arrangement would have been made for them to sit examinations.
"The 43 students affected by the non-payment of fees by Hutton's Educational Unit will need to work directly with Mr Hutton to make alternative arrangements to sit these examinations when next they are offered by CXC," the ministry added.
The release said Neville Hutton, head of the unit, had continued to operate unregistered schools in May Pen, Linstead and Portmore, despite being warned and given the necessary documents for registration.
