Fighting Britons face court on Friday
TWO BRITISH nationals who are accused of causing damage valued at more than $100 million to an aircraft while they were involved in a fight on a flight to Jamaica, are to face trial tomorrow.
The trial date was set on Tuesday when Jason Dixon and Danielle Bishop appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court and pleaded not guilty.
They are charged with malicious destruction of property, air rage, and disturbing the peace. The altercation reportedly took place while they were on a Virgin Atlantic flight from London to Jamaica.
A report was made to the police, and they were arrested and charged. The damage to the aircraft is estimated at £25,000.
Bishop had at first pleaded guilty to the charges. When she was asked by the court to explain what had transpired, she said Dixon was drinking heavily on the flight. He made threats and sexual advances towards her. He grabbed onto her hand and that resulted in a fight, she said.
After hearing Bishop's explanation, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey set the case for trial. Bishop and Dixon are in custody as they were not given landing permits.
