The new tip-off line for alleged or assumed tax cheats got 33 reports in its first week, Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) said Tuesday.

The tax-cheat hotline, 1-888-292-4328, became operational May 1 and is manned by "trained agents, the tax agency said.

The reports were referred to senior investigators for follow-up.

The hotline is one of the tools employed by the TAJ to "widen the tax net and to stem the practice of under-reporting", and promote "a more equitable and transparent tax system".
