Representatives of Presbyterian churches belonging to the Synod of the Lakes and Prairies in the Twin Cities area vote first by hand, and later by paper ballot, to eliminate the celibacy requirement for gay and lesbian clergy at the Peace Presbyterian Church in St Louis Park, Minneapolis, yesterday. After decades of debate, the Presbyterian Church (USA) struck down a barrier to ordaining gays, ratifying a proposal that removes the celibacy requirement for unmarried clergy, in the latest mainline Protestant move toward accepting gay relationships. - AP
