Jamaica serves notice in airline deal

The Government of Jamaica (GoJ) and Air Jamaica Limited yesterday issued to the Government of Trinidad and Tobago (GoTT) a notice to complete the Air Jamaica- Caribbean Airlines (CAL) transaction, the ministry of finance said yesterday.

A two-week extension for the completion of the transaction expired yesterday.

The ministry of finance said the notice to complete became necessary "not because the GoJ believes that CAL and the GoTT will not consummate the agreed transaction, but in order to legally preserve all rights under the signed Agreements".

"The GoJ and Air Jamaica are also mindful of the obligation to the North American authorities, who issued the route authority to CAL based on the understanding that the transaction agreed to on April 30, 2010, would have been completed by April 30, 2011," the ministry said.

It further said "the GoJ and Air Jamaica are confident that the transaction will be consummated within the next 14 days, based on the commitment of all parties."
