Shock and grief swept across a section of Olympic Gardens, St Andrew, yesterday morning as residents looked at the body of 25-year-old Shameca Granville, who was electrocuted in a mango tree.

The commanding officer for St Andrew South, Senior Superintendent of Police Delroy Hewitt, said Granville had taken her children to school. On her way back, she attempted to pick some mangoes from a tree. He said she got in contact with a Jamaica Public Service high-tension wire which runs through the branches of the tree.

"The one morning she carry her children to school, this happen. Because the lady who normally carry them couldn't wait, and it sad, because she was a nice person," said Marva Johnson, Granville's friend.

Tanisha Pink-Gayle, Granville's sister, said the family has lost a loving person.

"She was very kind to us and she was very jovial, and so she will be sadly missed," she said.

Granville left behind three children, of whom the eldest is eight years old.
