ST ANN'S BAY: St Ann:

WHILE STILL sticking to its central focus of education and safety for children, the St Ann-based Thread Foundation has broadened its scope somewhat and has aided in the repair of a section of roadway close to two schools in the parish.

According to director Gina Tulloch-Adams, the foundation was informed that the road in front of the Columbus Preparatory School, and just a few metres from the entrance to Marcus Garvey Technical, was in disrepair and that St Ann Parish Council currently did not have funds to effect repairs.

So Thread Foundation moved towards getting the road fixed.

Tulloch-Adams said there were three important factors that influenced her organisation's decision to get involved.

"The safety and well-being of the children attending Columbus Prep School and Marcus Garvey Technical High School; the road is the main route leading to the hospital upon which emergency vehicles travel, and the historical statue of Columbus is a part of our heritage and the site is often visited by locals and tourists," she explained.

Thread Foundation sought and obtained help from New Era Homes 2000 Limited, which is currently constructing the Marina Village at Drax Hall, St Ann.

The company donated cement and labour and had a section of the roadway patched until, Tulloch-Adams explained, the authority does the job in its entirety.
