Murder trial of police sergeant delayed
THE CASE involving the police sergeant charged with murder following the video-recorded shooting of an Ocho Rios man was yesterday set for mention on July 29.
A trial date could not be set as the police has some outstanding statements to collect.
Detective Sergeant Lloyd Kelly is charged with the murder of Ian Lloyd, otherwise called 'Chen Singh'. The Crown is alleging that the incident took place on July 29 last year.
Sergeant Kelly is on bail and is being represented by attorneys-at-law Churchill Neita and Oswest Senior Smith.
Lloyd, who was from Pineapple in Ocho Rios, St Ann, stabbed a woman to death on July 29 last year.
The Crown is alleging that the police responded to a call from residents. A constable who was part of the police team which went to apprehend Lloyd was allegedly caught on tape beating him while he was on the ground.
It is further alleged that a plain-clothes policeman later shot Lloyd in full view of residents at Buckfield, St Ann.
