Persad-Bissessar invites Indian investment

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Tuesday touted her country to Indian businesses as the ideal location for investment.

Addressing a business forum organised by the Indian High Commission in Port-of-Spain, Persad-Bissessar said that her administration would also welcome investment in the agricultural sector to help reduce the TT$4-billion (US$660 million) annual food import bill.

"With food becoming scarce due to climate change and natural disasters it will be imperative for Trinidad and Tobago to achieve self-sufficiency in as short a time span as possible," she said.

Persad-Bissessar said Trinidad was also seeking investors in the health sector, given plans for construction of new hospitals over the next four years, and for moviemakers to take advantage of Trinidad's "natural environment and the human talent" and film their productions in the twin-island.

"Trinidad and Tobago is open for business," she told the forum.
