O'Gilvie sues Government of Jamaica for missing money

Justin O'Gilvie, the business partner of former west Kingston strongman Christopher 'Dudus' Coke, is challenging the amount of money reportedly seized from his office during the incursion last May.

The police have reported that $2.9 million was seized from a safe in the office located at Passa Passa Plaza on Spanish Town Road, Kingston. O'Gilvie is contending that the actual sum is $5 million and is also claiming that a Rolex watch was missing from the safe.

O'Gilvie's lawyer, Paul Beswick, made the disclosure when he opposed an application yesterday by the Asset Recovery Agency for the forfeiture of the $2.9 million.

The agency is alleging that the money was ill-gotten gains, but O'Gilvie is contending that the money was obtained through legitimate business deals.

The application is set for continuation on July 14 before Resident Magistrate Sonia Bertram Linton in the Corporate Area Civil Court.

In the meantime, O'Gilvie has taken the issue to the Supreme Court. He is seeking damages and an order for the Government to return his money and missing items.
