SPANISH TOWN, St Catherine:

THE ST Catherine Parish Council has been losing out on thousands of dollars in revenue, as a result of defiant taxi operators.

According to councillor for the Old Harbour Central division, Esworth Frankson, taxi operators who refuse to use the two designated car parks on East Street and Burke Road in Old Harbour are denying the council of up to $15,000 per day.

"When we just opened the car park on East Street, we used to make up to $18,000 per day, now we only making $2,000, most times $3,000, per day, we have to find money to pay staff," the disgruntled councillor told The Gleaner.

Frankson, who raised the issue at last Thursday's sitting of the council, argued that the Old Harbour police have been ineffective.

"When you go to Old Harbour, you can see all the taxi in the town, South Street, West Street, Burke Road, nobody is in the car parks. I am totally upset because the police are not working. I have spoken to them daily, they are not working. They need to move the taxi men in the parks," he asserted.
