Ministry expects trouble-free release of GSAT results
The Ministry of Education is seeking to assure that there will be a smooth flow at primary schools today as the much-anticipated results of the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) are set to be released.
The GSAT was held over two days in March with approximately 43,000 primary school students registered to sit the test.
There has been anxiety among some schools, students and parents about the length of time it takes for the results to be released.
Results not late
But, in announcing that the data was ready, the education ministry said last Friday that the results are not late this year as they are usually released at the end of June.
Meanwhile, Colin Blair, director of communications in the education ministry, reiterated yesterday that greater steps have been taken this year to minimise glitches often experienced by schools in accessing the results.
"The ministry is aware that every year some schools face challenges in accessing the GSAT data electronically, so we have changed things a little this year," Blair told The Gleaner Power106 News. "We are not only issuing the usual CDs, we are also issuing printed copies of the GSAT report so schools will have paper copies and they will also get the CDs. This will make it easier for them to get access to the data."
The ministry said principals should pick up GSAT packages at the regional offices at 9 o'clock this morning and that it stands ready to address all concerns and queries from parents and schools.
