Crown to close in Munster Road trial today
The Crown is expected to close its case today at the trial of police Sergeant Russell Robinson who is accused of the theft of 18 firearms and 9,540 rounds of ammunition from the police armoury.
Yesterday, the prosecution completed the exercise of tendering into evidence the rounds of ammunition.
Robinson has been on trial since last year for the theft of the ammunition and 18 firearms. The firearms were put into evidence as exhibits earlier this week.
The Crown, represented by Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Dirk Harrison, is alleging that Robinson was held in February last year on Munster Road, Kingston 2, with guns belonging to the police armoury. Investigations by the police led to the find of other guns and the ammunition.
Robinson is facing charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
Robinson, who has been in custody since he was arrested and charged last year, was assigned to the police armoury at the time of the alleged offence.
Supreme Court judge Horace Marsh is trying the case in the Gun Court.
Attorneys-at-law Valerie Neita-Robertson and Diane Watson are representing Robinson.
Three civilians who were charged in connection with the find pleaded guilty. They are serving prison sentences ranging from 10 to 13 years.
