WINDSOR, Portland:

THE WINDSOR Primary School in east Portland has received two new computers along with a multi-purpose printer, scanner, and copier from the National Commercial Bank (NCB) Foundation to help improve its students' literacy level.

New principal, Natalie Burke, has implemented a number of measures aimed at lifting the education bar at the institution.

"We are indeed grateful to NCB Foundation. This has injected life into our newly acquired resource centre and, undoubtedly, this will enhance students' education, who will now be exposed to the new era of technology and access to information. They will now be able to conduct research and complete assignment pieces, and to also improve on their vocabulary."

When The Gleaner visited the school on Wednesday, the computers and printer were fitted and fully activated.

Much-needed gesture

Grade-five student Aqueno Bignal thanked the NCB Foundation for the much-needed gesture, and promised to take care of the equipment.

"We are very happy. We can now do our homework and carry out research on computers rather than visiting the library in Port Antonio, more than 10 miles away."

The school has a student population of 70, and is also to open its first library.
