THE EDUCATION ministry has taken steps to establish a special high school for disruptive students.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Audrey Sewell, said the facility was being refurbished and could be ready by November.

Sewell, who made the announcement while speaking at the Jamaica Teachers' Association's Golden Torch award ceremony recently, said the initiative was part of the ministry's efforts to address safety and security issues in schools.

With the growing incidence of students disrespecting teachers, Sewell argued that it was a trend that must be addressed.

"I want teachers to know that the ministry is aware that you are not working in ideal conditions.

"The ministry is working through various initiatives to make schools safer to ensure that the school environment is conducive to effective teaching and learning," she charged.
