Two killed in St James

The Bureau of Special investigation has launched a probe into the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of two men by the police in Green Pond, St James, Saturday morning.

The dead men are 22-year-old Deocoy Spence, otherwise called 'Done' of Green Pond Capture Land, St James, and an unidentified man clad in a white merino shirt and plaid shorts said to be in his early 20s, of fair complexion, medium build, and about 178 centimetres, or 5 ft 10 inches tall.

A Glock 19 pistol serial number PPV 249 loaded with a magazine containing 10 live rounds and also an extended magazine containing four 9-millimetre cartridges were seized during the same incident.

Search warrant

Information from the Constabulary Communication Network is that the police went to the home of Spence to execute a search warrant. As they approached, three men were seen running from the house.

The men opened fire at the police, who returned the fire. After the shooting subsided, Spence was found at the rear of the premises suffering from a gunshot wound.

The Glock pistol was found beside him. The unidentified man was found in bushes suffering from gunshot wounds. The extended magazine was found in his shorts pocket.

They were both taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The matter has been reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations.
