NWA dismisses residents' road grouses

CHRISTIANA, Manchester:
THE NATIONAL Works Agency's communications and customer services manager, Stephen Shaw, has dismissed claims by residents of Christiana, who sold land to the Government to facilitate construction of the bypass, that his agency is ignoring their complaints and concerns.
At least two persons, whose properties were affected, told The Gleaner recently that they had been unable to find anyone connected to the NWA to whom they could voice their concerns. In both cases they took issue with the state agency's 'approach' with specific reference to the inability to identify anyone to hear their complaints. This, Shaw has dismissed as an outright lie.
"NWA is represented on site each day by at least two of the three officers assigned to the project, so there is no truth to the claim of the agency having no representative (for residents) to talk with," he told The Gleaner.
He added: "The family's privacy and security concerns were discussed with Ms Grace Tyme Carty on Thursday, July 14. The planned construction of a boundary fence by the contractor will alleviate her concerns."
However, Tyme Carty was emphatic in denying that she had met with someone in connection with the matter on Thursday.
"No," she declared, before expressing confusion at this bit of information.
"I just don't get that, or whatever, because I don't see anybody here. Is just one of the men that was working and he just passed by and say he is calling to me and it was only that."
CAPTION: While welcoming the Christiana bypass for the relief it will bring to motorists, Grace Tyme Carty is upset about the way contractors and the National Works Agency have dealt with property owners affected by the construction. Tyme Carty explained that cutting of the access road has given animals and humans unrestricted access to her yard and severely impinged on her privacy.
