Letters - Road rage

Dear Ms Thompson:

We can all relate to the frustrations caused by indisciplined taxi and minibus drivers on our roads.

They are out of control and, frankly, it would not have made me lose any sleep, if the X6 driver had targeted the driver. Yes, it would be wrong, but much better than what happened.

However, I think everyone is off base here. This isn't 'road rage'. It's the actions of an individual that thinks he's above the law. To pull a firearm in broad daylight and fire into a taxi is the action of a man who thinks he can get away with anything (and probably has) because of his connections.

Interesting comments. I just want to add that the story also mentions that the taxi driver tried to escape the scene after the collision.

It could be out of fear, perhaps he was going to a police station. In any event it could be inferred that he was trying to escape the cost of repairing the BMW. Now that gives no-one the right to shoot, but it does create extreme anger. If it were a white woman driving a high-end car, I can't see her behaving in the same way. So I conclude that a part of our society's ills have to do with how we all deal with problems. When I was growing up, if you behaved with decorum you were accused of thinking that 'you nice'. Well, we see now what the absence of decorum can cause - irresponsibility and extreme aggression.
