Henry salutes new custos of Clarendon

MIKE HENRY, Central Clarendon member of parliament (MP) and transport and works minister, has extended congratulations to newly appointed Custos of Clarendon William Shagoury, who assumes office today.

Henry, a long time friend of Shagoury, said there was no one in the parish more deserving of the honour of serving as the new custos than Shagoury, who had worked tirelessly in support of the parish's development for decades.

The MP said Shagoury was such an integral figure of the Clarendon developmental landscape that he would only be ceremoniously assuming the mantle of formal leadership within the parish as custos, as he had long assumed the role of such a giant across Clarendon.

"Billy, as I have always referred to him, but which I may have to reconsider now, has played such a major role in the development of both May Pen, and the wider Clarendon, that he is fully deserving of the honour being bestowed on him as the successor to the James deRoux," declared Henry.

He said he had no doubt that Shagoury would be continuing his task of community building, "As he just cannot help it, being the person he is."

Henry also extended gratitude to the retired custos for a job well done over the past 30 years.
