Court date set for UK consul murder case

The security guard accused of killing British consul John Terry will have his case mentioned on September 9 in order to facilitate his lawyer's receipt of statement copies from the prosecution.

Resident Magistrate Carolyn Tai gave the court date during Richard Ewen's appearance before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

The court was told that the case file will be ready by the end of the week, at which time it will be served on Ewen's attorney, Trevor Ho Lyn.

Ho Lyn also told the judge that his client had provided him with instructions, which were given to the previous counsel, Michael Jordan.

Tai ordered that the investigating officer be bound over for September 9, at which time the case is to be mentioned again. Ewen's $750,000 bail was also extended until the next court date.

The 24-year-old, who hails from Bull Bay in St Andrew, was arrested and charged with murder following investigations into the discovery of Terry's body at his Mount Carey, St James, home on September 10, 2009. Terry's caused of death was listed as asphyxia due to ligature strangulation.

The murder accused had been working in Montego Bay at the time of Terry's death.
