Violation of force rules irks Commish

POLICE COMMISSIONER Owen Ellington has again warned members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force that they could face strong disciplinary action for driving around in marked vehicles out of uniform.

"It is observed that despite instructions to members to cease the practice of wearing plain clothes whilst driving and riding in marked force vehicles, there is still evidence that commanding officers are not ensuring strict compliance," Ellington said in the Force Orders yesterday.

According to Ellington, the image of the force continues to be negatively affected by this practice.

"This is unacceptable and will not be countenanced," Ellington warned as he reiterated that all members of the force not specially authorised to work in plain clothes while on duty must not be out of uniform while driving or riding in marked police vehicles.
