  • REDjet to touch down in Jamaica Nov 20

REDjet is now booking flights into Jamaica, and is scheduled for its first touchdown in November using a newly acquired third aircraft, the airline said.

Tickets are priced at US$9.99 each way - or J$860 at spot prices - plus taxes.

The airline will operate the Barbados to Jamaica and Trinidad to Jamaica routes on a twice-weekly schedule.

"Our first flight to Jamaica will begin on Sunday, November 20, from both Trinidad and Barbados, and we know that many of our customers and regional travellers have been waiting on the launch of these routes," said Business Development Director Robbie Burns in a company statement.

REDjet will compete with CAL/Air Jamaica in the Caribbean.

"We pride ourselves on being a breath of fresh air in regional travel, and we are expanding to meet the needs of our customers and the demand for our service. We're in this business and in this region for the long haul, and we will continue to have the best and lowest fares," said CEO and chairman Ian Burns in the statement.

He said REDjet's fleet will eventually increase to five aircraft: one due in December and the other in the first quarter of 2012.

The airline also has a back-up wet lease agreement with an unnamed airline that, according to Burns' statement, "has five aircraft that are on standby in the United States whenever we may need them."

  • Air Jamaica returns to Orlando

Air Jamaica/CAL reinstated non-stop flights from Kingston to Orlando Thursday at an introductory price of US$89 plus taxes.

"Reintroducing our non-stop service to Orlando - the fifth largest metropolitan area in the Southeast US - is an important milestone in our strategy to strengthen operations," said Will Rodgers, acting general manager of Air Jamaica. "The flights, which originate in Port of Spain, will serve Orlando's growing Caribbean diaspora, as well as seasonal leisure travellers from the Caribbean."

The airline will fly a 154-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft on the route weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
