Samuda gets fourth term as JCC president

Attorney Milton Samuda was re-elected Tuesday for a fourth consecutive term as president of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC).

In his presidential speech, delivered ahead of his re-election, Samuda listed among his accomplishments a one-stop shop at the ports, the Chamber's support of the reform of tax administration, and the formation of a foreign-trade advisory committee with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.

"The past three years have seen the chamber act on behalf of its members and the broader private sector to achieve practical results in affecting and correcting the national budget, urging tax reform, developing bipartisan dialogue, reforming trade administration, influencing justice, among other things," said the attorney, who is a partner in the law firm, Samuda and Johnson.

He said the chamber would continue to reach out to organisation's such as the Jamaica Exporter's Association, the Jamaica Manufacturer's Association as well as financiers such at EXIM Bank Jamaica, Scotiabank and First Global Bank.

"The next administration will need to use the gains as building blocks to tackle those areas in which we have not done so well," Samuda said.

Also elected to the JCC executive were first Vice-president Francis Kennedy of Grace-Kennedy Limited; second vice-president Warren McDonald of Berger Paints Jamaica; third vice-president Paul Scott of the Musson Jamaica group,fourth vice-president Catherine Kennedy, also of GraceKennedy, and Wilbert Spence of KPMG as treasurer.

Lloyd Distant, Keith Collister, Marjorie Seeberan, Oliver Chen, Glen Christian and Grace Bennett were elected directors.
