Grenada seeking to establish teaching hospital

The Grenada government says it has sought the assistance of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) regarding a public-private partnership for the establishment of a teaching hospital on the island.

The Tillman Thomas administration said that it has identified the hospital as a major project under the transformational sector of Health, Education and Wellness Services and that in December last year, it had signed an agreement with the St George's University to pursue the initiative.

It said that the IFC, the private-sector arm of the World Bank, has sent a team to Grenada and will be working with the government and the St George's University over the next 18 months to develop and deliver the partnership.

While in Grenada, the team will meet with various officials, including the prime minister, members of the opposition, the university, the business community, trade unions, as well as medical practitioners and organisations such as the pharmacists and nurses associations and the media.
