POEM OF THE WEEK

These memories

All they do is haunt me

Every step I take

Every moment I'm awake

Every second I sit still

Every minute that goes by

I sigh

For these memories have been loose

Rampant

Daunting

Twisting and turning the functions of my heart

Past and present

Laughter

Time well spent

Trips I took with souls I was blessed to meet and greet

Love rides on these tides

Still internally

I cry

A beautiful soul I miss, oh, so much

That these very memories aren't even enough

I pray that one glorious day

I'll see your face again.

I prayed

Humph, I prayed

I prayed that your words had no meaning

That they were not real, that they were not true

You thought it was love, her loving you

Twice her age you said, obsessed with your voice you said, humph

I prayed, I prayed it wasn't true

I read with an open mind, ready to read about your love

What I ended up with was disappointment, anger and wicked disgust

She might have told her mom about you but she was in a daze

Manifestation of a version of what she really wanted in you

Don't get me twisted

You sick, twisted shrew

What would your wife think? Does she deserve the betrayal of your blood-red goo?

Humph, twice your age you said, I bet you gave her all the things she required

All the things she admired, maybe you didn't

The secret you kept wasn't a secret, it was a bucket of your adultery debt

Good for her leaving you alone, don't moan, don't groan, just get your things and pray to God

For forgiveness on your sorry way home.

Falling in love

Falling in love can be a marvellous experience

If the arms of love are there to catch you

And hold you tightly

Love is what I like to call breath-taking

Many have killed

And will kill to get it

But as my dad always says

Never you desire to fall in love, my daughter

The brave ones like you and I

Never fall nor yield

We stand in love

Like Vikings on a battlefield

Falling in love can be disastrous

If the one you love

Is not willing to catch you

So don't you dare

Desire to fall in love

Stand firmly and let it flow through you.

I wish

I wish that the world was more accessible

The greater one's wealth the wider doors open

They restrict the masses of third world countries

While they invade like rats in granaries

And we accept them with open arms

because if we refuse embargoes may fall

We have become an orphan state

Heavily reliant on first world aid

Our forefathers after Independence made mistakes

But while they were ignorant the better equipped today have failed

We have a young prime minister for the youth to praise

But is he an image of the one he replaced?

I wish our country can one day rise again

To do that our values and attitudes must change.

Darkness inside

Where the brightest light always shines

The darkest shadows will always hide

I try to escape the burning light and seek refuge with the darkness inside

Stars aren't all you think they are and the lights are scorching from where

I stand

You might think it's easy but it isn't when the darkness is

where you lay your head each night

Like a bird flying around putting on a show

As a peacock spreads its extravagant feathers

I go to the darkness inside

You may judge me as much as you want to

You may say I'm afraid of my life but if you

were me you would adore the darkness inside

What is the darkness?

It's your one and only relief, not a drug

A drink or a needle

But long awaited sleep.
