WESTERN BUREAU:

Victoria Mutual Building Society (VMBS) joined Dr Hermes Madu, president of the Rotary Club of Montego Bay East, along with friends for an evening of 'Cocktails and Lyming' to celebrate his birthday recently at the doctor's residence.

Overlooking the second city at his Central Loop residence in Mango Walk, the ambience was set for a lovely evening, which kept up to expectations. Catering was done by the tried, tested and proven Pelican Restaurant, and this also did not disappoint.

Guest of honour, the charitable medical practitioner, who is chief executive officer of Highlife Medical Centre, is celebrating his 44th birthday and did the honours of cutting the cake with his daughters Carol and Gabriela, along with VMBS Chairman Michael McMorris. All of the guests were given a token from the financial company.

While it was a 'lyming' and not a business session, much of the conversation was about the innovativeness of the financial company which apparently is going for the jugular of its competitors. "If you can't come to us, we will come to you", is among the fresher approaches highlighting its mobile service through its building development department and its officers. This is complemented by a financial services department.

In attendance were some of the company's top executives, along with some prominent Montegonians, including business icon Giuseppe Maffessanti and wife Daniela, vice-president branch distribution at VMBS Joan Walter, Allan Lewis, senior vice-president group strategy VMBS, among others.
