Paul Mountain Primary School in St Catherine has been refurbished and expanded at a cost of more than $21 million, courtesy of Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF).
The newly renovated compound was officially opened last week. The work on the school was completed in June 2010. It is now equipped with new sanitary facilities, a canteen, freshly painted classrooms and furniture for grade-one students. The school was built in 1961.
Principal Delores Clement thanked JSIF for responding to a request made by the school's former principal, Marjorie Brown, in 2007.
"It was her brainchild as she saw that we needed to have better surroundings. JSIF responded quickly and this is the end result," she said.
