Wednesday, January 18 could easily be described as ATL-Audi Day in Jamaica. From breaking ground in the afternoon for the new ATL Autohaus Kingston branch to the spectacular unveiling of a spanking-new Audi A6 later that night, there was no doubt that the ATL family was ready to 'tun up de tings' in Jamaica's automotive industry.

Joined by Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller and an impressive slate of government officials, ATL Chairman Gordon 'Butch' Stewart and his son, Adam, the company's CEO, father and son led a large gathering from corporate Jamaica to the history-making event. The address formerly famous for carnival/soca revellery would now be transformed into Autohaus Showrooms and, to complete the transformation, in 2015, Sandals City would join the party.

The day also saw the launch of a new ad campaign, 'Unbeatable', and during his address, CEO Adam Stewart showed the television commercial to the public for the first time. Stewart said the time had come to take a more substantial share of the new-car market, and why not? The sales grew from a mere 14 units in the first year to 120 last year. "In 15 months' time we will be ready to do business here, and we intend to do better for the Jamaican people," he said.

And, by the look of things, prospective customers are lining up. The Tinson Pen Aerodrome along Marcus Garvey Drive was abuzz with excitement for the unveiling of the new cars on Wednesday night. And guests were not disappointed. From a laser show to London's hottest violin rock band, a trapeze artist and all the food and drink the stomach desired, it was a fantastic show. The highlight was the display by rally driver Doug Gore (driving an Audi, of course) at high speed on the adjoining runway that had been closed with permission for the event.

Guests got a chance to drink in the features of wheeled (and winged) models parked at the hangar, and they also made use of the numerous photo ops the occasion presented.

The Audi A6, like all other cars sold by ATL, comes fully equipped with a GPS system. "There are just about 10 cars available now, but we will bring them in to order. We customise any colour the buyer wants and we guarantee excellent after-sales service," an obviously pleased Stewart told The Gleaner.
