PwC reviewing bids for Hedonism III

Receiver Wilfred Baghaloo said Monday that a number of interested buyers have bid for the former Hedonism III hotel property in Runaway Bay.

The bidding closed January 31.

Baghaloo said only that the bids included international investors.

"We are now in the process of doing our evaluations and will then proceed to negotiations thereafter. All bids were in conformity with the bid document," said the receiver, who works with auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers Jamaica.

Baghaloo said he would not comment on the number of bids or their source.

The hotel was rebranded and operated as SuperFun Beach Resort and Spa up to mid-year 2011, when SuperClubs gave up management of the property.

The Royal Decameron hotel group has leased the property for the winter tourist season, which ends in April. Louis Campbell, managing director of the Royal Decameron resort group in Jamaica, said towards the end of last year that his company was confident it would eventually end up owning the 226-room property.

The hotel is owned by Development Bank of Jamaica (54.35 per cent), Scotia Investments Jamaica (30.43 per cent), and SuperClubs, through Village Resorts (15.22 per cent).
